March 25-26 A Weekend to Remember

I can’t decide what was more spectacular – the great ride to Goldendale along the Columbia River, time with my best friend Michelle, the warm welcome at Apple State Harley Davidson, eating a bite of food so delicious I almost cried, or traveling home through a winter wonderland filled with towering snow-covered mountain peaks and large ice-covered lakes. Life is so good!

I headed East towards Goldendale yesterday to spend the night with my best friend Michelle on my way to a book signing in Yakima today. Although my map app directed me to take I-84 East I chose to go instead on highway 14 east along the Washington side of the Columbia River. There is less traffic on that road and more close-up views of the gorge and surrounding cliffs and valleys. As I got closer to Goldendale, I saw more fields and farmlands followed by a stunning view of Mount Adams on my way into town.

Michelle and I were able to have a great girl’s night out at the Dirty Cowgirl. We ordered a 16-ounce prime rib to share but they gave us 22 ounces instead! The meal was absolutely perfect with flavorful buttery mashed potatoes, creamed horseradish, and au jus. As if that wasn’t enough, we followed the main course with a slice of Smores Cheesecake that was off the charts delicious – moist and creamy with a perfect crispy shell and a plate full of homemade whipped cream.

This morning I headed over to Apple State Harley Davidson to speak at their HOGs and Dogs event as well as personalize books for those who were interested. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Jose asked me to speak a couple times as there were many people arriving at different times. It was wonderful to hear the stories and adventures of so many wonderful customers.

Grant Myers had graciously driven to Yakima this morning to deliver some books for the signing. After the event at the dealership, he and I headed over to Water Fire Restaurant and bar for lunch. I ordered a Wagyu Beef Carnivore burger with brisket and bacon as well as two potato croquettes served with Gorgonzola Cream. The croquettes were so good I almost started crying when I bit into them!

The ride home was stunning as we took highway 12 West through Packwood and Randall on our way to interstate 5. The route took use past numerous lakes and rivers including Rimrock Lake, Riffe Lake, and the Cowlitz River. I think my favorite part was driving through all of the snow-covered mountains including those at the White Pass Ski Area. It was so exhilarating to twist and turn along the river and through the snow. What a great adventure!
