What an amazing day in the sun! After so many weekends with rain and cold it has been a huge relief to get three days in a row of warm and sunny riding weather. Although I did end up neglecting all of my housework and yard work, I definitely made the most of the riding this weekend. Today Mike Webb did a fantastic job leading a few of us on a beautiful ride to Klickitat, Glenwood and home with stunning mountain and river views along the way.

Mike took us north on I-5 from Latus and then east on highway 14. It is almost unbelievable to me how beautiful our country is. I never cease to be amazed by the colors and contracts of the gorge – stunning  sheer red and brown cliffs on one side and the clean, cool, and peaceful blue of the Columbia River on the right.

From highway 14 we headed north on highway 142 to the small town of Klickitat and then took the Glenwood Highway to Glenwood. Lots of curvy roads with spectacular mountain views. From there we took the Glenwood BZ highway and then Washington 141 back to highway 14.

This route provided us with lots and lots of curves, twists, and turns as well as generous views of the Klickitat River. The road in some spots was fairly slick due to a number of freshly laid tar snakes and there were several places where the tires didn’t hug the road as well as they normally do. We were lucky that it wasn’t hotter than it was because the road would have been more slick.

It was wonderful to have such a fun way of enjoying the sun with good friends. Overall an excellent way to end the weekend.
