Woohoo! So happy to be back on the bike again. After surviving the ice storm, power outages, and all the debris in the road it was wonderful just to get out and ride. Mike Webb led Grant Myers and me south to Deb’s Café in Alsea for an amazing meal. We had passed this restaurant several times before, but I never had the opportunity to eat there. It was definitely worth a stop. The atmosphere was warm and cozy with a wood burning stove and rustic décor. The burgers were juicy, flavorful, cooked to order, and served with hand cut fries that had just the right amount of moisture. I ordered a slice of berry pie to go. We took main roads there to avoid any obstructions in the road earlier in the morning but still managed to get some fun twists and turns in right before Alsea. Other than just a few minutes of rain right before lunch we had dry and partly sunny weather all day. After eating we took back roads north past Mary’s Peak and got a glimpse of snow on top of the mountain as we drove by. From there we headed north on 223 through Kings Valley and then passed through Dallas. Mike had his heart set on crab pie from Blue Raeven so we took a fun an circuitous route to Amity. The crab pies with regular crusts were all sold out, but we decided to hang out there for a few minutes anyway. It may sound strange that I brought a pie from Deb’s with me to Blue Raeven. But I wanted to give Deb’s pie a try and was too full to eat it at lunch. So I ordered a large container of whipped cream from Blue Raven and then went outside and slathered it all over my pie from Deb’s. Yum! The berries were just the right amount sweet and the crust was crispy and flavorful. What a treat!
