July 11 - Bridal Veil Falls and Sturgis

Whew! Today was a perfect example of why it’s always a good idea to pack a map as well as extra food and water. 😀 Ended up having a good day overall. Explored some of the hills surrounding Custer, got to see Bridal Veil Falls and Spearfish Falls, then decided at the last minute to check out Sturgis (since it was only about 45 minutes from the waterfall). Ended up encountering road construction (translate gravel road) on the way there. But the bummer was trying to go back another way and encountering a 5 mile dirt road (not something I’m willing to do on my Harley). The other option was also a no-go: the sign said a bridge was down that way. The GPS wasn’t cooperating but I had a detailed local map. Took a break and had some food and water then figured out another way home. Decided I deserved a nice slice of strawberry rhubarb pie afterwards. 😀 Tomorrow I’m hoping to put a ton of miles in as I head east to see my son in DC. I would love any suggestions for places to stay between DC and Deal’s Gap next week. 😀
