I felt like a kid in a candy store today. I was heading west from Tonopah, Nevada to Lee Vining, CA and hit highway 120. The clue I was in for a fun ride? A sign that said “dips next five miles.” The dips were varied and numerous but many were huge, definitely taller than the bike and impossible to see over. It’s like the guy in charge of leveling the road was on vacation when they made this one. One huge dip after another. You bomb up the hill, get a brief moment of weightlessness, then swoop down the other side, only to be met by another dip. I have to admit, after exploring for the afternoon near Lee Vining I turned around and did another 60 miles of dips back and forth. I was having so much fun I was laughing and chortling out loud. Ok it sounds silly but it was so dang fun! I’m including one photo of the road. If you zoom in you can see the tops of three of the dips. I also explored Tioga Pass. Stunning views of the mountains and lakes. To top it off I got to see Mono Lake State Natural Reserve. The lake there is a startling silver grey blue that almost seems unnatural. Tomorrow I head to Yosemite.
