August 15 - California Coast
Lodging: Garberville, CA
Life is so good! I find the California coastline to be so therapeutic and inspiring. I left Gualala early afternoon - after eating the pizza I couldn’t have last night because the power was out. Had a delightful morning before that exploring the little beach town, walking near the ocean, and going to a Farmers Market. Stuck to highway 1 going north. About an hour north I realized I really wanted to put my toes in the sand and water. So I pulled over at Van Damme State Park and actually got a parking spot right near the sand. Ate my leftover pizza and finished a good book. Got a picture of the beautiful cove and the piece of driftwood where I sat and ate my snack. Then I continued north enjoying the view. One of the things I loved about this section of coastline was the many places where the road was covered with trees. I was often surrounded by the wonderful smell of Eucalyptus trees. Later north I could smell the redwoods. I was able to get a picture of one of the many tree covered sections of road. Tomorrow I am going to drive through Avenue of the Giants. This part of the trip is more low key and relaxing and special in its own way.
