June 15 - Hagg Lake
Had a great ride out to Hagg Lake today. Spent some time thinking about this summer. It's getting close to time to leave for my cross-country trip and I would love your ideas about where to go. I'm looking for ideas for great places to eat (great taste, not necessarily fancy), curvy rides, and gorgeous scenery. I have the rough outline planned- head North into Washington (two awesome food stops), Idaho (Bonner's Ferry) and then Montana (Glacier National Park, Beartooth Pass, and Red Lodge), then dip down to Wyoming (Yellowstone and Chico Hot Sprints) and Colorado (Million Dollar Highway and world's highest Harley store). Then go East to South Dakota (stay in Custer and ride the rides near Sturgis), then head East to DC (see my son for 3 days). However, there is this big gap between Sturgis and Washington DC. I've been to the Football Hall of Fame and the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Harley Manufacturing Tour. Don't really have any interest in seeing them again or going to any other museums. So I would love some ideas for the many state gap between South Dakota and Washington DC. Then I'm going South to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Natchez Trace Parkway, Tail of the Dragon, Back of the Dragon, then New Orleans (for the food). Trying to decide if I should do the Florida Keys. Then West, West, West (maybe do the Iron Butt Challenge™ through Texas). Any ideas between New Orleans and the Grand Canyon? Then several favorite stops in California (food and scenery and family) then sadly, home again. Keep in mind I've got 8 weeks and don't mind doing a lot of miles. So I'm open to just about anything you might suggest. Also, if anyone happens to be on the road and is interested in riding together for a day or two, feel free to private message me. Thanks guys!
