January 10 - Goldendale and the Dirty Cowgirl
What an awesome day! Decided on a change of scenery and headed East on highway 14 with Grant Myers. Another friend of mine recently bought a home in Goldendale and highly recommended we try eating at the Dirty Cowgirl. The name of the establishment might give some people pause, but the food speaks for itself. I couldn’t decide which meat or sides to order, so I got two meats and two sides – the 2 Meat Barbeque Meal with brisket and pulled pork along with homemade garlic mashers and an extra side order of baked beans. The brisket was exceptionally moist and flavorful and the pulled pork was also delicious. The garlic mashers were so buttery, garlicy, and creamy I felt like I was eating dessert. The baked beans were warm and flavorful and included tender morsels of tasty bacon. A generous serving of homemade cornbread was also included with the meal. I would have eaten more of it if it had been warm enough outside to spread butter over the bread. The ride there along highway 14 was breathtaking, with sheer rock cliffs on one side and the Columbia River on the other. We passed numerous lakes and rivers including the Klickitat River. I love the way the road curves and twists and passes through a variety of tunnels carved in the mountain side. We stopped to take a picture near Wishram. One unexpected pleasure on the way home was watching a hand glider swoop right above us and land near the river. Thanks for pointing that out Grant.
