October 26: “Faith Over Fear” Women’s Breakfast

What better way to celebrate a successful speaking engagement than a ride through colorful tree-lined streets to my favorite taco stand! It may have been raining, but nothing could dampen the sense of gratitude I had for the opportunity to share my message of “Faith over Fear” with the women of my church.

I rarely get sick. So, when I was hit hard with a severe cold over the last two weeks my first concern was whether I would recover in time for today’s Women’s breakfast at River West Church. With about 200 ladies in attendance from many different congregations, I was hoping to inspire and encourage.

Fortunately, by the grace of God, my voice held out as I shared with the audience about the lessons I’ve learned on the road during my travels by motorcycle through four different continents. I’m so grateful that the women were so responsive and affirming – laughing, clapping, and crying. Many women came up to me afterwards to share their own personal stories and convey the impact my message had on them. I was so encouraged by their kindness.

It was such a treat that my best friend, Michelle Martin, traveled several hours to be there this morning. I was also honored that one of my current students attended along with her mother and grandmother. During my message, I shared an encouraging note that this student wrote to me last Spring, thanking me for the impact my book had on her life. A former student who in attendance gifted me with a lavender candle. What a blessing!

After lingering at the church talking with several of the guests, I headed home to don my raingear and ride west to the La Pachanga food cart in Aloha. Heading north on Roy Rogers Road and then 175th street, I breathed in the cool, crisp air, took in the red, orange and yellow fall leaves, and sent up prayers of thanks for the speaking opportunity this morning.

After a delightful meal of Barbacoa Tacos and Beef Broth, I headed home to fulfill book orders and lay the groundwork for future talks, hopefully in the not-so-distant future.
