May 15 - Backroads to Reedsport and north to Florence
What an awesome day! Thanks to the kind service people at Willamette Valley Harley Davidson, I was able to get my bike out of the shop yesterday and take it for a spin in this gloriously sunny weather. I left Eugene on the bike early evening, stopping shortly afterwards in Creswell to fuel up the bike at the gas station and myself at the Creswell bakery. Managed to do a loop on backroads out to Reedsport and back home a little before midnight.
From Creswell I took backroads through Drain and out to Reedsport on Oregon Route 38 west. The countryside in that area is so peaceful and quiet, with minimal traffic and abundant wildlife. I love the way the road curves past rich green meadows and thick trees while following the Umpqua River for long stretches. Before hitting Reedsport and right after a sign that said, “Elk viewing,” I was treated to a view of a large herd of Elk. I stopped to watch and observe them for a few minutes, marveling at how their shiny coats glistened in the sun, before continuing west to Reedsport,.
From Reedsport I headed north to Florence to fuel up and enjoy a nice dinner at “Best Thai Cuisine.” I hadn’t been there in two years, but the owner still remembered me from several previous visits. I enjoyed the excellent service, ate some delicious pad thai and warmed up before heading out again. The route home was East on highway 126, then north on 35 and 99E. I got home later than I would have liked but was glad to be able to get some miles in after being without the bike for a week.
