February 6 - A Restorative Day along the Coast
The Pacific Ocean has always inspired me. Ever since I was a little girl, I have been transfixed by the vast expanse of blue seas dotted with rocky outcroppings and sandy beaches, the undulating swell of the enormous waves, and the frothy foam created by the rising and falling of the tide. I continue to be both moved and encouraged by the breathtaking beauty of the Pacific. So, when I realized the day was wide open for riding, I decided to spend it traveling north along the Oregon coastline.
As much as I love riding with wonderful friends, I also appreciate the restorative nature of a long day spend riding alone. There is something especially freeing about going at your own speed, being able to position the bike anywhere you want in the lane and having the option of setting out without a plan or route in mind.
Today I decided to give myself the gift of a day along the coast with no pre-planned stops. I headed south to fuel up on treats at the Creswell Bakery and then took highway 126 west along the Suislaw River to Florence. After gassing up in Florence I spent the afternoon traveling north along highway 101.
It was such a treat to see bright blue skies, crisp white waves, and lush green foliage as I travelled through Heceta Beach, Yachats, Waldport, and Newport. I stopped several times to take pictures, watch the waves, and enjoy the sun, returning home more energized then when I left. I am so grateful to have grown to the place where I can be so happy alone and also to be more able to live in the moment. Life is good!
