August 20 - Julian to San Diego: A Day of Celebrations
Woohoo! What a day of celebrations! Delicious fresh baked pie, a pleasant ride through the foothills of San Diego County, lunch with my daughter, and a book signing to boot. Last night I treated myself to a stay at the Julian Gold Rush Hotel, a historic bed and breakfast that is nicely appointed and within walking distance of all the shops and restaurants in Julian. So before hitting the road this morning I fueled up on fresh boysenberry pie with homemade whipped cream.
I had been to the town of Julian a few years ago during a very trying time. So, returning to this quaint town under better circumstances was a great reminder to me of how much I currently have to be thankful for. I felt that coming back for a “re-do” was a great way to celebrate making it to all 48 states this summer as well as to acknowledge to myself how much I have grown as a person.
After my delicious snack at the Julian Pie Company, I headed towards my daughter’s new apartment in San Diego, just a few miles from the San Diego Harley Davidson dealership. The drive along highway 78 and then highway 67 was incredibly enjoyable, winding through the towns of Santa Ysabel, Ramona, Rosemont, and Poway. The road was lined by trees and provided many views of the hills and valleys below. I could smell the eucalyptus trees and feel the warm sun on my back.
My daughter and I enjoyed a quick lunch before she left for work, and I left for my book signing. What a great event! The San Diego dealership was hosting their weekly bike night and the atmosphere was very festive with live music, a mechanical bull, food carts, and other vendors. I so much enjoyed meeting friends from Facebook as well as new customers who shared about their motorcycle adventures. I am so honored to be able to share my passion for motorcycling with others.
